Thank you to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I want to start off by saying I really love the cover for this book, I’m not sure what it is about it but I’m definitely a fan! Now what really got me excited about this book was the fact it was told in dual timelines, I was a bit apprehensive that I wouldn’t be able to follow, or would get far too involved in one-time timeline and not want to go back to the other but that really wasn’t the case in this book.  I really wanted to know what was going on in both timelines so switching between the two seemed like a fair compromise!

Another great part of the book for me was seeing both Clare’s and Ellen’s confidence grow throughout their stories, there is no doubt about it that they are both facing very different situations but their personal growth and development shine through. I also liked how it all wrapped up, it a great sense of closure which I was concerned about. The only sort of downside to the book itself was that it was a bit short for my liking, I wanted more! Oh well guess it’s not the worst problem to have, I will just have to go find another book from this author!

Thank you to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

‘At the end of Summer’ is a great contemporary romance book with a bit of family drama and personal secrets thrown into the mix. The story flicks between the characters of Caroline and Josh as they begin their summer (which ended up being in Italy which I love) and ultimately their journey together.

Now it did take me a little bit of time to fully become emersed in this book and this is pretty much the only reason why I have rated this as a four star instead of a five-star read but once I got into it I didn’t want to put it down! I found it also really helped that each chapter wasn’t all that long making it way to easy to justify ‘just one more chapter’!

Both Caroline and Josh are really well written complex characters, each trying to deal with past hurts as they look on to how they could possibly have a future together. The romance aspect also took a little longer to start and at the start, I did have some questions about their initial attraction but as the book progressed I was rooting for them all the way! As I mentioned there is also a bit of family drama, secrets are thrown into the mix and I really felt that this worked to bring the book together. I also have to say I absolutely adore the cover of this book and even though I know I’m not supposed to judge a book by the cover I probably would have picked it up to read by the cover alone! A truly great four star read.

Thank you to the author and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a great little feel-good kind of book and was a perfect read for over Christmas! What immediately made me want to read this book was the fact it was set in Greece as well as following the life of a single mom travel blogger, because let’s be honest how great is it to fantasise about being paid to travel to new and exotic places with a little bit of romance thrown in for good measure!

The story follows Leah and her daughter Rosie as they navigate their new world as such after winning a travel blogger award. The story itself did not start of how I was expecting and carried on very much it’s own path throughout the book, which is great, as you never completely know the direction it will go. In regards to the characters, you really got a sense of Leah and her struggles and it was great for all the ways it was able to really include Rosie as well. You really did end up rooting for these characters. There are a few what I like to call bonus characters as well, which really help to spice up the story. I did feel like the entire story had a satisfying ending and concluded all of the stories I wanted concluding.

I also really enjoyed the writing itself as it had some truly great descriptions of Athens and Greece which of course just really makes me want to go and visit. Maybe next year New Zealand is a little too far to pop over for a quick visit!

Blog Tour and Giveaway: The Christmas Spirit by @Susan_Buchanan @rararesources

Today I’m really excited to be taking part in the Blog Blitz for ‘The Christmas Spirit’ by Susan Buchana. Tis the season for feel-good christmassy stories and this one doesn’t disappoint!

Synopsis

Christmas is coming, but not everyone is looking forward to it. The Christmas Spirit

Eighty-two-year-old Stanley lost his beloved wife, Edie, to cancer. How will he cope with his first Christmas without her?

Jacob’s university degree hasn’t helped him get a job, and it looks like he’ll still be signing on come New Year.

Workaholic Meredith would rather spend December 25th at home alone with a ready meal and a DVD box set. Can anything make her embrace the spirit of the season?

The enigmatic Natalie Hope takes over the reins at the Sugar and Spice bakery and café in an attempt to spread some festive cheer and restore Christmas spirit, but will she succeed?

Review

The Christmas Spirit is a great feel-good story revolving around the four main characters; Rebecca, Stanley, Jacob and Meredith, all at different stages of their lives and all looking at facing a rather tough holiday season for their own personal reasons.

What I loved about this story was that all the characters had their own unique voice, as well, of course, being able to all interact and intertwine within each other’s lives. Natalie being the glue doesn’t play as much of a part as I expected her too but I think I liked it better that way, it gave me a chance to really get to know the characters as well as see how they are able to navigate the problems and challenges they are facing with only the gentlest of nudges into the right direction. I also really loved that the book got to include so many awesome recipes for Christmas cakes! It really helped the book have that feel good feeling around it!

I think I would have liked the story to be a bit longer as some of the character development seemed a little rushed and I would have enjoyed seeing a bit more of the thought processes before some decisions and change of hearts but I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a book for the festive season!
